I'm on 24\7 and Zone Alarm has worked well for me. As for the spam some use mailwasher. used it for awhile but still got spam in the accounts it does not protect.

Yep, I agree with brindle, I use Zone Alarm Pro which has a few extra features, but the free version is still a very good firewall and offers outbound as well as inbound protection. Takes a little bit of configuring it, so it works the way you want, but apart from that it's great.

zone alarm has caused great stress for all my friends and then locks up their internet access and when u try to delete it it takes files with it. the message we got was that they wanted us to upgrade and pay and locked the pc up pretty well.

I have never heard of anyone having a problem with Zone Alarm like you describe, and I have used it for at least 3 years now across various operating systems.

Like I said though, it does take a little effort to configure it properly. I am unfamiliar with other software firewalls so I can't recommend another one sorry.

I've used ZA since I can't remember when and never had a problem with it. Many times when folks are having problems it's not the program but something else.

I have seen other firewalls discussed here just can't recall which ones. sure there are quite a few good FW's to choose from.
