Go to here: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/downloads.htm and download 'Hijack This!' self extracter.
Double click on the file and it will self extract to C:\program files\hijackthis.
Go to that folder then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

    Do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I see you are running Hijack This from Temporary Internet Files folder now. This is a bad idea because it cannot create and restore backups from there. You need to create a new folder in My Documents and name it Hijack This. Now Click here to download Hijack This again. Download it and click "Save". Save it to the Hijack This folder you just created. That way it can create and restore backups if needed. HJT will store the backups in the same location that it is run from.

After you have done that, rescan with Hijack This and post a new log please.

    Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete this file:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINRAR32.EXE

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

    Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
    Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

Dont know if tgs allows links to other forums, but I work for Microsoft PCSaftey and found this on another board... pretty detailed instructions on the removal and the files to look for.

Also if you find this file, remove it..

    c:\windows\system32\drwebav.exe

Usually the file/files involved are different. In Kellymarie's case the trojan file is C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINRAR32.EXE.

i got rid of my virus last night, ok so go here: http://jayloden.com/AIMFix.exe
and then scroll to the bottom and download AIM fix it will get rid of the virus, and read the instructions on that page about the internet options, and then restart your computer it should be gone. You will know if its gone if you look in your profile and it says something like
"This profile cleaned by AIMFix: http://jayloden.com/VirusClean.htm

Please note: this is simply to notify you that the virus has been removed. You may delete this from your profile at any time." i hope that helps.
