Whether its Chrome, IE or Firefox, I am unable to dowload anything as when the download has 'finished,' I receive an error informing me that either a virus was detected and threat removed, or, especially in Chromes case, an error telling me that the virus scan has failed. I uninstalled Chrome, thinking that perhaps reinstalling it would help but now it seems I can't even do that...

I have Norton Antivirus, on Windows 7 (64-bit), anything else needed lmk.

any help would be most appreciated, as downloading files etc makes life so much smoother as school student.

THANKS!

What exactly are you trying to download? From where?
Literally anything mate, from things such as calendar templates that I can print off, to PDF files from emails, even the chrome installer wont download!

Let's see if you can download the following:

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.

2- Run the program.

3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.

4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply. Do not attach it.

6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

For Windows 7 and Vista:

If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, run HijackThis as Administrator or disable the UAC first.

Run the Norton Removal Tool.

Download it from a working computer and save it on a USB flash drive. Plug it into your faulty computer and run the tool.
