    Hello guys,

My browser has also been redirecting itself to many different URLs all at once when I try to click on a googled link. This is occurring in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

I've ran several different scans, Spybot S&D, Kaspersky, and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes returned no search results, Spybot found something called Waldac.cn trojans, that was quarantined and removed - Kaspersky also found some virus/trojan that was quarantined.

Below is my HijackThis log, thank you so much for taking the time to help! It is truly appreciated.

I would also like to add that I got a BSOD yesterday afternoon and have kept my desktop off since then. Not sure if the BSOD is directly related to the issue going on with my computer, but wanted to throw this info out there. Thanks again for reading!

Hello there  Welcome to the Tech Support Guy forums.
My name is NeonFx. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. Logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me.

    Please note the following:

    • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used on this machine.
    • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean that the system is completely clean.
    • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference. I may ask you to boot into Safe Mode where you will be unable to follow my instructions online.
    • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
    • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

    Step 1

    Download OTS to your Desktop

    • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
    • Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
    • Check the box that says Scan All Users
    • Under Additional Scans check the following:
      • Reg - Desktop Components
      • Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
      • Reg - NetSvcs
      • Reg - Shell Spawning
      • Reg - Uninstall List
      • File - Lop Check
      • File - Purity Scan
      • Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)

    • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
    • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
    • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
    • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Please attach the log in your next post. To do so click on the blue "Reply" button or "Go Advanced" and click on the "Manage Attachments" button

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached. If it is too large to attach then upload it to Dropio and post the sharing link/url (The Drop's URL will be similar to : http:://drop.io/daerk)

    Step 2

Download RootRepeal from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:

    • Double click [IMG] to start the program
    • Click on the Report tab at the bottom of the program window
    • Click the [IMG] button
    • In the Select Scan dialog, check:

      • [*]Drivers
        [*]Files
        [*]Processes
        [*]SSDT
        [*]Stealth Objects
        [*]Hidden Services
        [*]Shadow SSDT

    • Click the OK button
    • In the next dialog, select all drives showing
    • Click OK to start the scan
Note: The scan can take some time. DO NOT run any other programs while the scan is running
    • When the scan is complete, click the [IMG] button and save the report to your Desktop as RootRepeal.txt
    • Go to File, then Exit to close the program

If the report is not too long, post the contents of RootRepeal.txt in your next reply. If the report is very long, it will not be complete if you post it, so please attach it to your reply instead.

I need to be able to see what ComboFix did to your computer when you ran it.

ComboFix should not be used without the supervision of someone trained in its use as it does a whole lot more than just scan and delete what it finds.

Please attach C:\ComboFix.txt to your next reply. If you ran it more than once, please also attach any ComboFix#.txt files found in C:\Qoobox\

No worries. I'm not seeing much there. Are you still being redirected?

    Please do the following:

    1. Close any open open programs before running the fix.

    2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    3. Open Notepad (Start > Programs > Accessories) and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

    Code:
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32]
    "aux"="wdmaud.drv"

    Driver::
    XDva202

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\XDva202.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\wdmaud.sys

    DDS::
    uInternet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;;localhost;<local>;*.local

NOTE: Make sure WordWrap is unchecked in Notepad by clicking on the "Format" menu icon.

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Links seem to be working fine now! :)

I'm attaching the ComboFix log you've requested. Also, I had a question about the initial HJT log I posted - I noticed something that said "WormRadar" - can I tick that box off and remove it?

That is a legitimate entry (see here) and leaving it on your system will cause no detrimental effects. But I'll remove it in my OTS fix for you.

    STEP 1

    Run OTS

    • Under the Paste Fix Here box on the right, paste in the following

    Code:
    [Unregister Dlls]
    [Registry - Safe List]
    < Internet Explorer Settings [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\] > ->

    [Empty Temp Folders]
    [ClearAllRestorePoints]
    [Reboot]

    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
    • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
    • This will create a log in C:\_OTS\MovedFiles\<date>_<time>.txt where date and time are those of when the fix was run. Open it from there if it does not appear automatically on reboot. Please copy and paste or attach the contents of that file here.

    STEP 2

Let's run an online scanner on your system. This will take a while but it's well worth it as it can often find things all other scanners will miss. To speed things up while it's scanning you should disable your antivirus program.

    Run ESET Online Scan

    1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
      ESET OnlineScan
    2. Click the [IMG] button.
    3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
      1. Click on [IMG] to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
      2. Double click on the [IMG] icon on your desktop.
    4. Check [IMG]
    5. Click the [IMG] button.
    6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    7. Check [IMG]
    8. Push the Start button.
    9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
    10. When the scan completes, push [IMG]
    11. Push [IMG], and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
    12. Push the [IMG] button.
    13. Push [IMG]

You can refer to this animation by neomage if needed.

    STEP 3

Run OTS again and click on the Quick Scan button at the top. Attach the results of this scan in your next reply.

ESET Online Scanner found two viruses and quarantined them, can I delete those?

Attached below are the ESET & OTS logs. :)

I've also attached a report of my Kaspersky Scans - mind you, this was a scan that took place before I came to the forums but last night, I was given some warning about a PDM.keylogger (kernel mode memory patch); I was wondering if I should be at all alarmed about this, as I'm seeing many threads about people's accounts being keylogged and such... so if you could also look into that, I'd really appreciate it too. It worries me a lot.

Thank you so much again for your help and time.

Those two items are one and the same item. It is a component of Aol's Instant Messenger (AIM) that provides advertisements to your computer. Because ESET removes Adware as well, it detected that and its backup in your System Restore backup. The choice to delete it or keep it is yours. I don't know if deleting that file will cause errors in the program or not. I'm glad to see it found nothing else.

That detection seems an awful lot like a false positive just like the item right after it (RootRepeal). I don't know what it was referring to, but I would be willing to bet that it was detecting ComboFix's kernel mode driver. ComboFix uses the same methods other infections use to hide from security programs to hide from the infections, which will always make it a suspicious item to the Heuristics scanners of some of the more paranoid programs. That is also probably why Kaspersky couldn't see it and tell you what it was referring to. Your computer is clean now.

For the other items it found: C:\PROGRAM FILES\LAST.FM is legitimate as I'm sure you know. The other three were in your temporary folders so whenever the temporary folders and were cleaned, those were removed. ComboFix cleans temporary folders, and so did my OTS fix.

Your new OTS log is clean, and you have performed two general purpose scans that found nothing consequential. How's the computer running?

Here's some more evidence that it's a false positive being detected by Kaspersky:

    http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=122370

Read through it. On pages 4 5 and 6 you will see posts from yesterday and today where more than just a couple people are seeing that notification. It is most probably something that was done in Windows' updates, or the Kaspersky scanner updates that changed something. Nothing to worry about, and you can click on "Allow" if you get the exact same message again.

The computer seems to be operating like a charm :) No more funny links popping up, I hope that it's the last I'll see of it. Wooooot. Thanks so much for graciously taking the time out of your schedule to advise me. I'm truly grateful! :)

    You're welcome. Let's cleanup.

    STEP 1

The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

(If you use Vista or 7 just paste it into the text box that appears next to your start button)

    ComboFix /Uninstall

    STEP 2

To clean up OldTimer's tools, along with a few others, do the following:

    • Run OTS.exe by double clicking on it
    • Click on the "CleanUp" button on the top.
    • You will be asked if you wish to reboot your system, select "Yes"

    STEP 3

Remove any other tools or files we used by right-clicking on them or any folders they created, hold down the Shift key, and select "Delete" by clicking on it. This will delete the files without sending them to the RecycleBin.

You can also uninstall the other programs (HijackThis or MalwareBytes if we used them) by going to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Vista/7)

    All Clean

Congratulations!, [IMG], your system is now clean. Now that your system is safe we would like you to keep it that way. Take the time to follow these instructions and it will greatly reduce the risk of further infections and greatly diminish the chances of you having to visit here again.

    Microsoft Windows Update
Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Install the updates immediately if they are found.
    To update Windows
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update
    To update Office
    Open up any Office program.
Go to Help > Check for Updates

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A HOSTS file is a big list of bad web sites. The list has a specific format, a specific name, (name is just HOSTS with no file extension), and a specific location. Your machine always looks at that file in that location before connecting to a web site to verify the address. So the HOSTS listing can be used to "short circuit" a request to a bad website by giving it the address of your own machine.

Download BlockList Pro's HOSTS Manager HERE

    • Double click the Installer on your desktop and let it Install the Hosts Manager
    • After the installation is complete, click on the Hosts Manager icon on your desktop. (You can delete the other Hosts Switch icon from your desktop)
    • When the Hosts Manager comes up, click the small down arrows on the right side of the bar labeled Options and Tools,
    • Click Disable DNS Service. This is important
    • In the Left Pane, click Download
    • It will load 80,000 lines or more. When it finishes, also in the left pane, click Replace, and then click Save

You can use this manager to handle your HOSTS file download, edits, and most any other HOSTS issue.
If you have a separate party firewall or Winpatrol, you may have to give permissions at various times to Unlock the present default HOSTS file and install the new one.

    Install WinPatrol
    Download it HERE
You can find information about how WinPatrol works HERE

    Other Software Updates
It is very important to update the other software on your computer to patch up any security issues you may have. Go HERE to scan your computer for any out of date software. In particular make sure you download the updates for Java and Adobe as these are subject to many security vulnerabilities.

    Setting up Automatic Updates
So that it is not necessary to have to remember to update your computer regularly (something very important to securing your system), automatic updates should be configured on your computer. Microsoft has guides for XP and Vista on how to do this.

Read further information HERE on how to prevent Malware infections and keep yourself clean.

Please mark this thread as Solved by clicking on the button at the top of this page when you're done. Let me know if you need anything else.
