Hello,
My IE Settings don't seem to want to take. I am running Win98,IE 5.5 but need to upgrade to 6.1 because of work..Everytime I connect to the net my settings are moved To Never Dial A Connection..
I think I need to get in through tools and ultimately into Auto Configuration to take a look at the boxes..I just need to know if this is the correct step? Thanks.

Hi,

This is often due to a third party program loading when Windows starts altering the settings.

Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Now click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Paste the contents in your post.

We'll see whether we can pinpoint the culprit there.

Yes, but then you can't copy and paste the contents.
Hence... :D

Grtz.

That's a valiant attempt at Dutch, I must say. :D

I even almost understand what you're trying to say there...:p

Do I take it your problem is being dealt with?

I have one more tip for you I borrowed from the famous RegHakr:

Set your connection settings the way you want to have them.

Now post the bold into Notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
"ConnectionSettings"=dword:00000001

Save as Connection.reg, doubleclick it, and answer yes to have it merged into the registry.
Now nothing will be able to change it any more.

Change the dword value back to 00000000 if you want to make a change yourself.

Good luck,
