Am writing this on my Droid because I don't have access to another PC. Last night I came home and my computer had black screens and the light on the PC was amber instead of blue. Also the fan was running loudly. Tried turning off and on and unplugging but nothing. It was fine when I left an hour earlier. There were no storms or anything. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried booting up with your OS CD, and/or holding down your key to Safe Mode - F8 to bypass any issues? If you can't get into your Bios - I'd look at the PSU.

You need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components.

If the machine is a mass produced machine such as Dell, Gateway, HP, etc. post the EXACT make and model as there may be known problems with certain makes and models.

No one can diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build or the EXACT make and model of a mass produced machine.

Forgot to mention if the machine is a Dell or Gateway with a BTX form factor motherboard what you describe, i.e. black screen and fan running loudly is a classic symptom of motherboard failure with BTX form factor boards.

Just out of curiosity, what is the model of your Dell?

When you make a thread seeking help if you post information such as requested in post #3, it makes diagnosis much easier, and may provide assistance to future users requesting help since they can search the archives and may find a quick answer to their problem.
