I have an AMD Athlon 2100+ Processor; however when I installed it, it comes up as a 1500+. The clock speed is set to 100 and when I set it to 133 it comes up as a 2100+, but my PC gets too hot and goes out. Is there any way to get my processor to work properly without frying my motherboard?

if you have the FSB speed jumper set correctly, and your bios setting correct, and your board supports the processor there should be no problem.

    What speed RAM you using?
    What motherboard to you have?

without knowing more specific information all i can suggest is a better CPU and case fan.

Is the thermal paste present on the processor and is the heatsink properly mounted ?

Improper installation of CPU... check to make sure the HSF (heat sink fan) in snug and evenly leveled with the CPU - is it on backwards? Does its fan work?
