I receive the following beeps (9 beeps or perhaps 8...not sure)...

    Beep codes from AMI website:

8 short = Display Memory Read/Write test failure
9 short = ROM BIOS checksum failure

If 8 is the correct number is that memory on my video card or display memory thats on the montherboard?
If 9 is the correct number is the ROM damaged beyond repair? (open up that wallet  )

I think you could try and replace the Cmos battery on the motherboard about $2 to $4 price

I replaced the CMOS battery which = no change
Next I replaced my AGP GeForce 5500 with a PCI Matrox Millenium(sp?) and the system
    booted perfectly.

So one last question before I go shopping for a new video card, if its a read/write error (see orignial post = 8 short beeps = read/write error in the display memory) in the memory of the video card is there anyway to fix it other than buying/replace it?

thanks again to all who responded... (y)
