I rarely post in here and stay away from controversial or political comments normally but I want to ask everybody here for their help with this:

While browsing around the net I came across these very disturbing cases about extreme cruelty to animals in slaughter houses, circuses, and farms

Take a look at these links and read carefully and watch and listen to the videos on the sites

I found them very disturbing and shocking so even if they do upset you and they will please take the time to read the sites and pass the links on to everyone else you know and see if we can add our voices to the campaign to eliminate this gruesome and unacceptable attitude and wanton cruelty to animals

I am not suggesting or saying turn vegan or vegetarian, I'm not and won't turn veggie but I'm sure that after seeing this outlandish horror you will almost certainly want to do something to spread the word and all do our bit to make their short lives better.
They surely deserve a painless quick death without the brutal agonising torture shown in many of the videos & pictures

    http://www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com/index.asp

and the videos on this one are something to be seen
    http://www.milkgonewild.com/

Warning: some is uncensored and might be seen as almost Porn to some people

Can I just ask any of you that use other forums to spread the links to them please
especially any Forums that are US based or have a lot of US members as the majority of the dreadful acts shown on the sites are from the US

Hopefully normal moderate people not the PETA fanatics will complain to their congressman/Senator/MP/ MEP/ etc etc about this sort of attitude & behaviour to defenseless animals
If we treat animals like this then no wonder we treat humans in the same way and in my view those "humans" if you can call them that deserve the same torture themselves

I have previously criticised PETA for their OTT & almost terrorist approach to their view of Animal protection and animal welfare and Don't agree with a lot of their aims or approaches but this one I am totally in sympathy with

Fine Animals need to be slaughtered for food if you are a meat eater and most of us are, but where is the compassion and kindness and sensible behaviour that should go with it

I don't want this to be a Anti-religion or anti any ethnic group as quite a bit of the content refers to Halal & Kosher slaughter

The mainstream religious authorities have condemned that behaviour but it still goes on and pressure needs to be legally put on the civil authorities to do their job and prevent thois illegal & immoral behaviour

    Man! That's just wrong.

As much as I despise the PeTA leftists, I really think this is where they could do some good.

This meat-eater is totally opposed to this kind of animal cruelty. It is amazing that human beings can treat God's creatures this way. (n)

Thanks for bringing it up, dvk. Very difficult to watch some of that.
Warning, those are some disturbing images. :(

Even though I am and have been actively involved in animal welfare issues for almost all my adult life I always have been quite anti the PETA activists in the past BUT this time they are bring attention to a dreadful problem

I still eat meat but I can't see the need for that sort of mistreatment to animals and I hope many others will look at at and listen to at least least some of the very very disturbing videos on the site

Then I hope they will be moved enough to write or email their political representative to do something about it and spread the word to others about it

The videos were made 2 years ago and it is still going on as far as I have been informed

Such cruelty is purely unbearable ! There's no justification to behave like this.
Two years ago, a scandal was exposed in Belgium, animals activists (more moderate than those of PETA, I guess) videotaped secretly a transportation of cattle : there was even a little kid who was beating a veal ! :( Since, some measures against bad treatments of animals have been token.
This thread is a good idea as mistreatments of animals may be reduced after being systematically exposed to the public.

There is a thing that people must know : an animal has a right to be respected even if its is kept for its meat. And respect of animals should be taught to the people as their tender childhood.

    dvko1,

You raise an interesting issue - few people want to see animals treated cruelly. However there are numerous inconsistencies - for instance 'drift nets' designed to snare tuna, often trap Dolphins. Why are tuna fair game, whereas dolphins are seen as victims ? Likewise cattle, pigs, sheep are slaughtered wholesale, yet we in the west regard Koreans who eat dogs as freaks. Again some animals are seen as fair game, yet others are off limits.

Why is it alright to eat tuna - but assemble in protest at whale hunting ?

How can a person who will tuck into side of beef, scrag end of lamb, or leg of pork, condemn people who like to eat dog flesh ?

    - It seems, not merely to me, that animals which demonstrate 'human' characteristics such as the ability to learn tricks - dogs and dolphins being foremost, are by virtue of that fact alone, seen as off limits, whereas other dumb animals are acceptable for the dinner table.

At this time, here in Britain fish prices are going thruogh the roof, owing to severe shortages in the Atlantic, caused by overfishing. If fishiing trawlers started hooking seals for sale at Billingsgate, there would be uproar. Why ? cod, plaice, salmon are ok - but seal flesh .... noooooo  They swim around in tanks and balance a ball on their snouts.

I'm opposed to any unnecessary cruelty to animals - ie chemical testing, use in sport, etc. However I eat animal flesh without hesitation, as do many others who would desrcibe thewmselves as 'animal lovers.'

Vegans would never eat so much as a chicken egg.

Followers of the Jain cult in India, wear a veil so that they don't so much as swallow an insect.

It seems this is merely a question of degree.

    ---------------------------------

I as no doubt others did, saw your link to the organisation set up to save hedgehogs - yet maybe you have seen the report that there is to be a purge on grey squirrels here in the UK. Squirrels are among the most intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom - do you remember the Heineken addy which showed a squirrel negotiating a particularly convoluted 'assault course' to get to some nuts ?

Why one but not the other ?

    ------------------------------------

I support your philosophy behind posting this, yet millions of animals will die this year to grace our dinner table.

I'm always quite surprised at people who eat meats responses to these kind of things, it's how 99.9% of the meat / fish / poultry that ends up on your plate is treated.

If you're so outraged do what I did... go vegetarian / vegan or else at some point the money you pay for your groceries are going to end up in the hands of the people who treat animals in the ways you see above.

Armchair activism acheives nothing... and I bet next time you eat KFC or any meats it won't even cross your minds.

    Just my 2 pennies.

I watched the KFC video a couple of years ago and it had me in tears and I've never forgotten it so I won't watch them again.

Ky. Gov. Refuses Pamela Anderson's Request

    By ROGER ALFORD
    The Associated Press
    Tuesday, January 24, 2006; 8:37 PM

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- With a bust in the balance, Kentucky's governor is siding with Colonel Sanders over Pamela Anderson. Gov. Ernie Fletcher wrote the "Stacked" actress to say a bust of the KFC founder will stay in the Kentucky Capitol, despite Anderson's claim that Sanders is a symbol of cruelty to chickens.

Anderson has been involved in a public relations campaign with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to raise awareness of what she calls abuse of chickens in processing plants that supply poultry to the Louisville-based chicken chain.

PETA has a habit of pointing out only the bad ones. They seem to "forget" to mention the majority that attempt to be as humane as possible. If they would show both they would be credible in my books but of course that would not benefit their cause.
Edit: Why isn't PETA up in arms about all the poor Kangaroo's that are slaughtered every year in Australia? Just curious...............

I don't condone cruelty to animals for any purpose, but that statistic is not even close to accurate. Please let's not disparage every farmer and food processor for the acts of some.

    That's obvious

I am not saying all slaughter houses are bad or don't eat meat but we should all do our utmost to use legal methods to shut down the bad ones and to fight for tougher rules and laws and full enforcement of existing laws to make them clean up their act

Write to your congress person, senator MP MEP or who ever represents you regardless which country you live in
