Go here and get the latest version of HijackThis, then post a new log. You need to move HijackThis out of the temp folder first and place it in a folder of its own. Temp files need to be deleted on a regular basis from

    *.TMP

    C:\TEMP\*.*

    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*

and we don't want to delete HijackThis along with them.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

You've got too many unnecessary programs loading during startup and running in the background that don't need to be, but let's wait until you post a new log and someone more experienced than me looks at it.

no matter what folder I copy or name the zipped file to, when I open, it still acts as if I'm starting from a temporary folder. Any suggestions?

Delete all folders that you have HijackThis in at the present so you don't wind up having it in multiple folders. Create a folder for it either right on your desktop or in the C:\PROGRAM FILES folder. Unzip it there and nowhere else.

I'm assuming you know how to direct your unzip program where to unzip at?

Try this link Hijackthis, it's not zipped. Save it to the folder you have created.

Thanks, CyberTech. That'll make it easier for him to install it. It's too bad all the sites don't provide it in .EXE format.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {12EE7A5E-0674-42f9-A76B-000000004D00} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB] rundll32.exe E6F1873B.DLL,D9EBC318C
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [98D0CE0C16B1] rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{12EE7A5E-0674-42f9-A76B-000000004D00}] rundll32.exe stlb2.dll,DllRunMain

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab). Uncheck the following:

    QTTASK.EXE
(Also, do a "find" for the QTTASK.EXE file, then delete it before you reboot)

    DIRECTCD.EXE

    CREATECD.EXE
(Uncheck the above 2, only if you use your CD burner rarely)

    MSTASK.EXE
(Uncheck, only if you don't set up your computer to run certain maintenance tasks automatically. Most people don't)

click Apply - OK, then reboot.

Personally, I would disable a few others because I like to keep a real lean startup load. If you want to research any of these startup items yourself, go here and make use of the "Search" option.
