After starting up my computer, I have a window that will not close. It is in the center of the screen and shows part of the application I was just running. If I change applications, the window shows the last one and still will not close.

Try updating your video driver first then reboot the computer. Also if you leave your computer run all of the time stop doing that and shut it down once and a while or reboot atleast once a day.

    Yes,
    Also go to

Start/Run.....Type in msconfig, then go to the Startup Tab and open it.

Here U will find what is loading into Startup.U can "uncheck" the items U do not want to load at Startup.
    This may help.

I seriously doubt the issue is video drivers and updates, but only of lag, dont you think? it happens to everybody...

    Try Control+ALT+Delete
then choose the mysterious program from the list
then on the bottom click ''end task''
    Should solve your problems
