    Hello,
This is my first post. I am here because I'm desperate! I don't know what to do and believe I have tried the obvious!:( When I click on links, my pc beeps at me and will not open the link. It does here and there, with the beep of course, but in general, I can not open links...no blank page, no nothing. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional and IE6. I basically have to copy and paste links and right click for the properties to get the link to copy and paste. This is very frustrating to say the least! I know this has been posted before but I don't think with regards to Windows 2000 Professional. I'm going nuts cause I can't figure it out on my own...can someone please, please, please help me??? BTW, the pc was working fine back in Oct before I left for the Middle East. I don't know what my family has done or clicked on while I was gone, but like I said, all the obvious problems have been checked!
Thanks so much. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you can help me at all.
    Desperate in NJ,
    Sheila

Hi, and welcome to the board.

Go to IE tools/internet options/programs and turn on the check box for IE to check if it is the default browser. Shut down and restart IE. When it asks to be default browser, say yes.

This is absolutely vital if your hyperlinks are to work.

If no joy, try repairing IE: Control Panel > Software Add\Remove > IE > Remove > Repair IE.

I tried checking the box, as per the first suggestion, but it was already checked. I unchecked it, closed it, restarted ie. Then went back, checked box, restarted ie, but it never asked about default brower. So, I went to remove/add software, clicked on ie sp1, and repaired. No luck. Noticed there is an IEAK6 installed, but don't know what it is. Please help!

Have a look at this MS article:

The "Open in a New Window" Command May Not Work

Also, are you absolutely certain that you don't happen to be running an application that eliminates popups that could possibly be responsible for this to happen?

    Tony,
I can't thank-you enough! I had Kill Popup installed on my pc. I just deleted it completely, and, voila! The problem is gone! I never would have thought of it! Thank-you so much! You are the absolute best!!!;) :D ;) :D :p  :p

I had a hunch that might be it.
