    Hi ejolly,

    While what blues_harp28 says is true about AV, Lavasoft is more targeted to AS.

    A very good free AS from MS is Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 which also has some realtime agent scanning. Bill Gates has gone on record at a conference that after its Beta period is over and it becomes a product it will still be free. You can get it here.

    Also, perhaps the best paid AS is Spy Sweeper from Webroot which you can get
    here.

    I would stay away from Mc Afee, likewise Semantec/Norton. Below is a list of the programs I use for comprehensive security. Some are free or have a free version.
    {redoak}

    ZoneLabs free firewall
    AVG anti-virus
    Ad-Aware SE
    Xoftspy
    Microsoft AntiSpyware
    Spybot S and D
    SpywareGuard
    SpywareBlaster
    EWIDO- extended trial version
    CWShredder
    Bazooka

    Note: ‘Xoftspy’ was once considered a ‘rouge’ but recently has been given a ‘clean bill of health.’
