What are the best and most reliable anti-virus software products? Are there any good free ones? I had Norton but uninstalled it because it was causing an SYMEVNT.386 not loaded error.

    I'm running ME with a dial-up......

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi,

There are numerous threads on the subject of which AV Prog is best - and some particularly vehemently put cases for each :)

The best free would be AVG -

Well, I still like Norton and would suggest you do a clean install. But, if you are going to change, there is a thread about SYMEVNT.386 that you might want to read through here. I read a good bit of it and it seems that sometimes uninstalling Norton leaves some remnants behind..

As for a new paid program, two lesser known ones I like are NOD32 and Kaspersky. Anyway, that's my view. :)

I also use AVG and will continue to do so until it's no longer available for free personal use.
