My brother has a computer that will not load avg anti virus, spybot, ad aware or windows update. I ran an online scan using panda software and it found alot of spyware and I downloaded the trial version and it won't load either. I keep getting an error message saying it has generated errors and has to close. Is this a virus and how do I get rid of it? The computer is a custom built with windows 2000 and 2.66 GHZ Celeron

    Hi

If you can, download HijackThis from the link in my signature below. If not, try using another PC and move the file between machines - the zipped files are small enough to fit on a floppy.

    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Do not install to a Temporary Directory as the backups made by HJT will be lost and they may be required later.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

One of the security experts will review the log and advise any action required.

I'm here now and I ran hijackthis but when I try to save the log file its says an unexpected error has occurred at procedure: cmdscan_click() error #5- invalid procedure call or argument. I noticed the year has changed to 12006 so I corrected it and it worked.

All my programs are working now since I corrected the year. The time month and day stays the same but the year keeps changing. It never changes backwards which would indicate a bad battery but it always changes to like 2065 or 12006. Have you heard of this before? I can't figure out what could be causing it.
