Are there any decent AUDIO EDITORS out there, preferrably freeware that will let you play around with audio files, such as WAVS and maybe let you play it in reverse, possibly add an effect or two etc... ?

    Thanks in advance

I second the vote for Audacity. I used to work in radio broadcasting and there wasn't much in the way of simple audio production that we couldn't do with that program.

Hi.... I'm in the process of trying AUDACITY. It plays the WAVS fine... however all of the numerous effects it has, such as echo, reverb, reverse etc... are all grayed out.

I tried everything. It plays the sounds fine... but I cannot figure out how to APPLY or activate all of these effects.

    I'll keep trying.

    thank you

OK :) I figued it out. You must SELECT the sound file before applying effects.

    thanks.... cool program

Audacity is one great program, if you want more bells and whistles go for 1.2 version of Audacity. 1.0 seems pretty basic if compared.

And yes, do a "Select All" before trying any effects!
