    Hi,

downloaded the driver for a scanner that ive been given,
a "Hewlett Packard Scanjet 3300C" on my Win2000 machine.
It includes OCR but i cant see how to use it.
Cant even see how to start it.

The scanner itself works fine, quite good scans.

But being as this driver is using many hundreds of megabytes on my drive,
i would very much like to use the OCR section.

    Any help appreciated,
    John :)

As I remember ... If you scan to a text file ... It'll perform the OCR.

Do you have M$ Office ??? .. It works a lot better.

That kinda makes sense, in that if i scan a text passage, then maybe the program will
offer to perform the OCR on it.
Having filled up many megabytes with its drivers, it should have some sort of instructions
    in the Help files.

From using other OCR programs, i was able to pick an image from my files, and scan
it with OCR to get some text from it.
Maybe they are all different and respond in different ways.

I will scan some text, and see how i get on.

Yes, i do have Microsoft Office somewhere ... version three, i think ,
i dunno if it includes OCR, i havent noticed if it does. I'll check.

Thanks Noyb, i'll let you know how i get on ... John :)

Well i was given the option to save it as text.
So i thought, if i save it as text, then surely the OCR will kick in,
and make it a text file.

So i saved it as text.
I dont think anything kicked in.
it just saved an empty text file.

From previous experience these OCR programs take a little time to scan and convert
into text. They dont do it just like a click.

I will try again, in case i did it wrong.

    John :)

Sounds like you may have to reinstall the Software

IRIS can only scan to a *.txt file
M$ Office MODI can read a scan to a *.doc file ... or ..
Convert an Image (converted to a tiff file) to a *.doc file
