I am automatically directed to AOL Anywhere when I try to go to various Favorite Places. This happens on both my desktop (AOL 8.0, Win 98) and laptop (AOL 8.0, Win XP). AOL has been less than useless in the help department.

    Hiya and welcome

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

    Regards

    eddie

    Well, that's a clean log...

When you say your favourites, is it all of them, or just a few in particular? If a few, can you rightclick on the ones taht are causing problems, choose Delete, and then rebookmark them, to see if that solves it? It may be a corrupt link somehow.

Go to "Add/Delete Programs" Find aol 8.0.. Click once. It will show any previous AOL instalations in there. I found 3 that needed to be deleted before the problem went away. Make sure your email and favorites addys are saved before you get rid of them previous instalations. If no previous found, upgrade to 9.0. If your dial up, do it over night. This will definatly solve the problem. After upgrade, go back and delete left overs. It used to happen to me every time I went to another site, just about every click. Could be marketing ploy....Plant a bug, fix by upgrade.
    Good luck
    Bobby
