My computer usage stays at about 100%. My aol software.exe constantly use about 80 % . While some csrss.exe takes up the rest. My computer is rea slow now.

I had this problem before and it went away. I can't remember what I did.

I will post a HJT file.

    thanks

A friend of mine uses AOL and had real bad slowdowns and freezes. He went in and disabled the McAffee antivirus and now uses AVG. I don't know exactly how he managed to get the AOL program to go along with it but it works. You may try disabling McAf in msconfig and see how it works. Make sure you have some other virus program, like AVG, ready to install and use before surfing the net.

    Thanks for the help.

Can you guide me through the misconfig process? I probably won't get another antivirus until the weekend, is Norton a good choice?

Or is there a free anti virus until I get to the store?

    Thanks again

You may have to dumb it down a little more for me.

I should go to the startup tab in the msconfig. then go to the website and check to see which programs I can close?

I know that in my "control, alt, delete" it's shows AOL software exe and csrss.exe to be consuming to resources.

I tired to install the avg but failed with 10 errors.

Thanks for your help. I really need it.

I guess what I'm asking is how can I get rid of AOL anti virus? I got the AVG installed an it's finding no shortage of viruses that AOL was claiming I was free of.

    Thanks

I would try to get rid of it by using the AOL uninstall exe first. If you can't do that go through Add Remove Programs in your Control Panel and hope that the software is listed there, if it is remove it. If that isn't an option either call the isp and fight your way through tech support till some one gives you the info that you need (be strong when dealing with the AOL people).

As a side note the msconfig utility only allows you to remove a selected program from the start-up list (these are programs that have been set to load and run when your profile is loaded), this won't really remove it from your system. If you only remove a program from your start-up list it will probably return after you re-use that service (it will re-install itself back into the startup list).

Getting rid of AOL is (should be) completely possible so don't give up!

    OK,

I installed the AVG and uninstalled the AOL virus and spyware junk and now my CPU is running like a well oiled machine.

    Thanks a million.
