I have a strange issue with my Acer laptop. It's an Aspire E 15 with Windows 10. There have been a few quirky issues before, but this is an odd one. I have written a book using the Word program Apache Open Office which I've used for countless documents for years without a problem. On a recent Save of my DOT File, which is 919 kb, I changed the document name from xxxxxx.ab5 to xxxxxx.ab6. When I returned to ab6, there suddenly were 400 pages of hashtags, every letter in every
word on every page now exists as hashtags. ab5 is OK as is every other doc including earlier versions of my book .ab1-4. What the hell is going on and how can I recover this important file? I tried a few things--visiting ASCII Filter Options and thought the Character set was messed up---it's presently set as "Western Europe (ASCII/US)" but none of the options worked--but nothing I tried worked. I thank you in advance for any light you could shed on this.

I've changed the title of your thread because there is no "Word" program in Apache Open Office but rather a "word processor" program. It makes a big difference for you to get assistance because when I read the title I thought maybe I can help because I'm familiar with "Word" but then I saw it was for a document created in a program that I'm not familiar with which is not actually "Word". "Word" is a Windows Office program.

OK thanks, but this didn't help. I am in need of some actual help, some guidance, some assistance in determining if/how this important doc can be recovered/repaired. Is there anyone with any idea as to how I can do this and perhaps how I can avoid this problem in the future? Thanks.

I did you a favour to increase your chances of getting help so there's really no need for sarcasm.

Why are you saving to a DOT as that is a "Template" to be used to make similar files be such?
