I set up an archive mailbox for a Mac user using 'New Mailbox' with location 'On My Mac'. I then set up a rule to move items older that 180 days to this mailbox. The mails appeared to archive successfully, however her Exchange mailbox hasn't decreased in size.
I also tried right-clicking her inbox and selecting 'Erase deleted messages' but this didn't work either. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Just to confirm, this is on an Exchange E-Mail account (as in for work)?

Perhaps the rules are not moving the emails correctly, as in it's more of a copy than move...

    Try this:

    Mac OS X 10.6
Select one or more mailboxes to archive, such as your Inbox.

From the Mailbox menu, choose Archive Mailbox.

Choose a folder or create a new folder to save the archives, and click Choose.

    Mac OS X 10.7
Select one or more messages to archive. If you select a conversation, all messages are archived.

Choose Message > Archive or click the Archive icon in the Mail toolbar. An archive mailbox is created for each account whose messages you archive.

The OS version is 10.4.11. There doesn't seem to be any Archive Mailbox option.

Ahh... I will have to look into that... been a while since I used 10.4. Have you tried the Apple Community?
