Are COA's transferable between OS's (ME -> XP)?

Yes, I know they are, depending on the circumstance (like for identical Windows versions)... And this is a new one:

I gave an old ME machine to my church, and put Ubuntu 6.06 on it. I have the install disk for ME (useless - it was an OEM version), AND, I have the COA sticker (useFUL???).

So, with my generic XP install disk, can I install XP to a new build, and activate it with the ME COA?

Nope . . the keys are unique to the operating system and version ( OEM, Upgrade, Full Retail )

Okay - this is partly wrong.

I've already used an XP Home key to install, AND ACTIVATE, XPPro on a different computer.

If any more of it is wrong, I don't know...

    edit:
and it was done automatically, not through a representative, so it was not an 'Exception' case.

Was that by chance a Dell using a Dell Reinstallation disc?

It looks like it was NOT a version change, from XP Home -> to XP Pro, as I thought, but only a service pack difference (XPH/SP1 -> XPHSP3).

I double checked it after the ME key failed on the XP load. Strike 2. WAH.

Waste of a COA. So much for dual boot.

Yeah . . it would have been a minor miracle if the Home key worked with a Pro installation disc . . The keys are not specific to Service Pack levels.
