I need to reinstall Windows on a desktop that has XP Home. I got the PC from Dell but cannot find the reinstall disk. However I have an XP Pro reinstall disk for a Dell laptop. Will this work on the desktop... and if it doesn't, will I find out early in the process (so that I can continue to use the 80% of the desktop that is working OK), or will I have an unusable PC?

No they are not the same and a CD key for one will not work for the other.

Thanks guys. The link is US and I can't find a UK link - can you help? Also, will this repair the OS so that files and programmes are unaffected, or will it only do a complete reinstall? My problem is that during start up the PC freezes 4 time out of 5 and I can't get as far as to run any programmes.

Dell customer support number in UK: 0870 906 0010
    Website: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...upport/dellcare/en/contact_us?c=uk&l=en&s=gen

You need to tell them that you want to repair you windows installation to save existing programs and data (otherwise they may send you the wrong CD).
