I think that this is a very simple problem but I can't find the solution.

Is there a command or function in excel that will allow me to take 48 cells (columns) of data & place it in a 6 X 8 table?

Dont know if this is gonna help, but you can make the cells in a row to appear as the cells in a column by doing a 'Paste Special' and selecting 'Transpose' in the dialog coming up.

if the paste special function doesn't work, you may want to explore pivot tables....

thanks for the suggestions. I didn't know about "transpose" before, so even though it wouldn't help me here, it's good to know it.

I thought about a solution today, which is only useful for the particulat need I have. I can take each cell in the line & reference it in the table so that when I change names (yes it's names I'm doing this with) in the line, they are automatically changed in the table. That is not an elegant solution but it will work for this problem. I'm curious about pivot tables & will look into them anyway. Thanks to everybody.
