I have a problem running this old Atari game on my old XP Pro system.

My "old faithful" computer on which I run Windows XP, mainly for the sole purpose of running such games as won't run under my newer Windows 7 system.
Recently, I suffered a severe disk-fault with this system and have since rebuilt it from the ground up with a new hard-drive and a new legal copy of Windows XP Professional.
This old system is connected with my I/O by a KVM switch, and both computers run perfectly OK now that everything is fixed.
Having got the drivers and hardware reinstalled, I have met with partial success.
Other games such as "Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission Lasvegum" and "Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc" run without any problems that I have seen thus far.

With the first "Asterix & Obelix XXL" game, I can't get past the Language Select screen. It brings this up OK, but then it doesn't respond when I try to select my language and start the game... the only thing I can do is Ctrl+Alt+Del and kill the GameModule.elb process to terminate the game.
It appears to run, since the Task Manager doesn't say it stopped responding. It's just frozen on that one screen, no matter what key I press.

    What is going on here?
It may be an old game, but it does have high nostalgia and re-playability value for me.
