If my motherboard supports 1.5GB of ram, can I install three 512mb SDRAM memory chips?

I have the ASUS CUV4X with three memory banks. My custom build system came with 256mb ( two 128mb chips ) of ram and I added a 256mb chip into the third slot about 5 months ago. Now that I am running XP Pro and ram is very cheap, I want to scrap all of the ram and install three 512mb chips.

Any advice, comments, suggestions? Even at $50 per 512mb SDRAM, am I wasting time and money? I've always thought you can't possibly have too much ram.....

The ram should work with the board but.

Unless you do graphics work, rendering, it's really not need, 512 is enough for just about anything else.
