I have read about the Athlon x2, and I wonder...is this something worth investing in if I am looking to buy a new computer? I do NO gaming, but I will do lots with digital photos and burning dvds. Is this type of processor more for gaming? What advantage is there to getting the AMD's version of the "dual core"?
thanks a lot for all opinions!

I have the X2 4400+ and it helps a LOT when doing all the things you want to do, but you will be able to do them at the same time with no slowdown. As for AMD vs !nte! AMD's Dual Core screwed over !nte!'s in the dual core duel.

When you're doing multi-tasking, it's very nice to have two processors. I'm building a system for use with Virtual PC to run multiple operating systems simultaniously, so I picked up the X2 for it.
