Good day,
My power supply is making a strange noise on startup and after about 1 minute it settles, is there anything I can do about it besides replacing it?
The mother board connection is 24 pins and the power supply connection in the PC at present has a 20 pin + a 4 pin connector I do have a spare ATX power suply but it only has the 20 pin connector without the extra 4 pin connector, can I use that power supply in my PC?
Many thanks,
Brobilly:up:

1st of all define "strange noise". You need to post the EXACT make and model of the problematic power supply and the EXACT make and model of the spare power supply you have that you intend to use.

If your machine has a PCIe graphics card installed you cannot use the power supply with the 20 pin main connector. The +4 pin connector on the power supply with the 20+4 (pins 11, 12, 23 and 24) supply 75 watts of power to the PCIe bus.
