I installed Windows XP w/SP2 on my PC. Now there are no sounds other than the "beeps". When I attempt to use Windows Media Player I get this error message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

I checked Device Manager and there is a yellow exclamation point next to C-Media AC97 Audio Device. When I check Properties I get the following on the "General" tab:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I clicked TROUBLESHOOT and get no where.
Surely I am not the only person who has experienced this. The audio device worked perfectly prior to the upgrade.

Install the motherboard drivers, then the sound drivers. Both should have come on the CD with the MB, but you can also download them from the manufacturer's website. Since you provided no hardware details, that's as specific as I can get.
