audio recorder not working

installed ess 1869 sound card seems everything works except recorder trying to record from sterrio input works i hear sound from speakers on pc but recorder is a flat line record input is up and selected have reloaded ess 1869 sofware and reloaded recorder --- help oh yeh i had a soundblaster card and it worked fine till it blew this on w95 with award bios puter

Check to make sure the "line in" is enabled and volume is adjusted in your recording properties.
