Auto Arrange

    Auto Arrange is greyed out at View/ Arrange Icons
    How can I get Auto Arrange to work for me? :confused:

    What operating system ? If xp did you lock the desktop ?

    Sorry about that. I have XP Home.
    My Desktop is unlocked. Locked or unlocked does this affect
    when I go to a file & View/Arrange icons? My problem is not on desktop but when I want to arrange icons in a file. :)

    If the "show in groups " is checked then uncheck it.

    It is unchecked but greyed out.

    The only other thing I can think of would be to go to folder options i control panel andrestore the defaults first then try it.

    Sounds like it could be a rogue registry key - I'm not going to pretend I have any idea what it is - but if you post a hijackthis log, maybe something will show.
