I just got a new Gateway notebook (MX6960) and I'm using the same software cd (vzaccess) and pc card (pc5740) as I did with my last Gateway notebook (MX6421).

I get disconnected every three to five minutes, and I get one of two messages:
redialing #777 appears in a window labeled dial-up connection.
currently working offline

I sometimes get a few hours of classwork done in between interruptions, but for the most part, it's a constant issue.

I didn't pay the Geek Squad to set up my new computer before I began installing my programs, and they set up the first computer for me, so I'm not sure if I just don't have the settings or configurations properly set. Gateway said that I may have spyware, and disabled everything in my startup menu. Upon contacting them again, I was told that it wasn't their issue, and that the pc card may not be compatible; they wouldn't say how I could find out if compatibility was the issue. Verizon walked me through reinstallation, reactivation, and running the vzaccess wizard. That didn't work either. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Shay

It doesn't say error 777, just that it's redialing #777, and then it reconnects. My computer says that my modem is functioning properly.

This is the connections info, if it'll help.

LAN or high-speed internet
wireless network connection: disabled, firewalled
1394 connection: connected, firewalled
local area connection: disabled, firewalled

dial up connections
quick2net: disabled, firewalled
national access-broadband access: connected, firewalled

I have no idea how my last one was set up.

So, Verizon has no idea what's going on. They sent me a free replacement card, but nothing's gotten better.

Not only am I being disconnected every few minutes, but I get redirected to a Gateway search engine a lot. I'm also getting the webpage unavailable/not connected to the internet page often. I downloaded HJT and have no idea what any of this stuff means.
Sorry to paste it here, but couldn't attach. Please help!
