Ok, so I have a certain amount of money in my bank account. But the avaliable balance is £5.03. I have canceled a few online orders. But the avaliable balance still hasnt increased, anyone know why?

Did you cancel them today? Banks don't update until the end of the business, usually overnight. Any adjustments will appear on the next day, unless you did business on a weekend or a holiday.

A merchant (online or brick-and-mortar) obtains an authorization for a certain figure from its authorization provider (usually a middleware solution between the merchant and your bank) but no money changes hands until a settlement is transmitted to the bank. The authorization puts a hold on that amount in your bank account -- reducing your available balance or open to buy (available credit.) The authorization will expire after a time (how long depends on your bank) if the settlement is not received. Depending on the merchant, they may have settled the transaction and have already been paid and need to issue you a refund. That's probably not the case if you placed the order and cancelled it in the same day but it could be. In the US, in some cases, there is still a paper document that is couriered to the bank before a refund is issued.
