A good plus with the new version is that you can join a new "Avg free forum"
It has a few threads running already with people asking about a few teething problems with setup etc. Looks like a good thing. (y)

Thanks I will do the install and let it uninstall for me. If anything goes wrong I can just uninstall and do a clean install.

Excellent! Thank you for the post xgerryx.

    (y) AVG 7.0.289 installed. (I let AVG uninstall v6.0....no problems)

    (y) Registered in AVG Forum

Note: even with frequent Spybot, Ad-aware and SpywareGuard maintenance
the AVG scan I just completed found (one) infected item....a Trojan horse.

    Objects scanned....71,833
    Scan duration........47:12
    Infections found.....1

    Now for the perennial question....

AVG is widely accepted of course as one of the best AV Programs one could have.
However, many of us also maintain subscriptions to other AV Programs such as (in my case) Norton Anti-Virus. Knowing it is NOT recommended to have two AV Programs running at the same time, what would be the recommendation on how to best utilize AVG 7.0? e.g. not running AVG concurrently with Norton but perhaps a weekly disabling of Norton's Auto-Protect and then scanning with (definition updated) AVG 7.0?

How can AVG be best utilized in this case?

    Thanks,

    Telstar :)

A good idea to never put all your faith in any one program as none of them are perfect. So an "online scan" once in a while is a good way to confirm your machine is clean.
There are a number of these available.
Here are just a couple to start with:

    Panda: http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
