if this is in the wrong place please let me know where it should go thanks.

i recently had avira 9 and then upgraded to avira 10. i uninstalled av9 before i installed av10. while installing av10 i ran into an error about unusual runtime compression causing a program to close and the program was the installation. how can i avert this from happening. i like avir and have had to install avg. is avg just as good as avira? how can i stop the runtime error so that i can reinstall avira? thanks

Dear machv,
Guess you have homed into the right place, like a sidewinder missile! These "unusual runtime error tools" are VIRUSES (almost always)! PCK/YodaProt. courtesy : http://www.viruspool.net/virus.cms . First off un-install AVG completely, using the AVG Remover. website : http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools.

Uninstall any vestiges you might have of Avira using : www.free-av.com/.../pdf/en/man_avira_antivir-removaltool_en.pdf - Similar

Kindly download an online virus scanner. Trend-Micro's HouseCall ,ESET and Kaspersky are all fine and free! My personal recommendation would be Trend-Micro H-C. Download site : http://housecall.trendmicro.com/. Make sure which version you are running-----> 32 bit or 64 bit (the option is given in the site). Run It and if it catches and kills any virus/viruses,the job is almost done!(y)

Make sure you are in the Avira website to download.I have read many articles in all these years and the one i am providing below is one of the "VERY BEST" i have had the fortune to come across (concerning Avira). After downloading Avira(my fav. too, among the free ones), follow this article to the dot and you will be amply rewarded! Website :http://tanaya.net/AntiVir/ . Never forget to re-start after downloading Avira(for that matter,IMO any software! Please get back and tell your side of the story! Best wishes . :):)(y)

i tried house call and it didn't find anything. the other day while i was asleep a folder was created on my desktop called redstart. the folder was empty. i deleted it. then when i got up today there were multiple warnings of the internet low mic failing to run or shut down. could this be the hacker trying to bug me?

ty for saying that we've been together for 9 yrs. anywho i went to the site you mentioned and looked some things up it said most of my system was ok concerning ports but that some of them were acting in a way that would garner unwanted attention from hacker types. also could this have something to do with my gmail account telling me that it was accessed from a computer located in the US somewhere and that I needed to change my password? I did change my password like it suggested.
