Sorry i should have said, I have done a full scan on my computer and it found 81 files detected as W32.KWBOT.WORM and 1 file detected as backdoor.sdbot, the other 81 files where deleted but it cant delete this one file or quarentine it or repair it. The little window that pops up when Nortons detects a file is open at the moment all it says is it is unable to repair the file.

Hey Jim. There is a solution. I'm not a real HijackThis expert, but there are several on this forum. Do this go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"button. Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

There are several things that could be going on. I did a search by typing backdoor.sdbot in the 'search' link at the bottom of the Security page and a lot showed up. So I'm not at all sure what you need to 'fix' at this point.

Once you HJT log is posted, it will be easier to identify a solution.

You sure are quick Jim. OK. Like I said, I'm not an expert, but I think these are nasty:

    F0 - system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe
    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe

Before you remove them via the HJT utility, I'd like to do a bit mor research or maybe someone else can give you a second opinion.

Ok. I'm now convinced those two are bad.

    F0 - system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe
    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe

There may however be more things needing fixing but do this. Run Hijack This again and put a check by these two. Close all browser windows and "Fix Checked".

Restart your computer in safe mode and delete:
    The F:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe file.

Instructions on starting in safe mode

    Next Please do the following:

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy here http://security.kolla.de/ , if you haven't already got the program. Install the program, and launch it.

Now press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates. Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.

When you're done restart your computer. Be sure and take advantage of the "Immunize" feature. It will help protect you from future attacks.

Like I said Jim, there could be other bad things I've not reconized, but these steps should help.

Thanks Derek for correcting my typing. And thank you for helping. I'm still not good at spotting all the bad stuff. :)
