Background picture problem

    i recently have had a spyware/malware infection, and since i got rid of it i can't put a background image.

    - going through the control panel, i can access the display box but once there it wont let me select an image. i can change the color though.

    -right clicking an image to set it as a background does not work either.

    i don't have any image, or can put one up.

    This might be a stab in the dark but i helped someone with a similiar problem. I think the drill went like so.

    Right click desktop>properties>desktop>customize desktop>web and uncheck anything you see there. That is how i recall what i told the individual.
