    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me! For some reason, the backspace button on my keyboard whenever pressed now launches Internet Explorer and redirects to a webpage. When backspace is pressed whilst browsing the web, the browser redirects to the page, and even when in other applications, it launches a browser if necessary and redirects to the page. IT IS SOOO ANNOYING!

I've ran Ad Aware and other software but it still has not fixed the problem. Not even sure if it is definitely an internet thing!

The website it redirects to is Compaq's! Which is also strange as I would have expected some porn site or the like!

Please someone put me out my mysery!!

    Many thanks, Simon

Hi there, shinypouch - did you get a solution - I have the same problem. In other applications if I use the backspace key it loads IE and goes to www.hp.com/INDEX.HTML which is not a valid HP page anyway - weird and bloody annoying - how is one supposed to edit text without the backspace key?!

There is no shortcut key setup on IE.

This just started happening suddenly - the only thing I remember doing is installing a later version of Opera.

I would greatly appreciate any help - thanks

    Hi Anmari,

I cannot remember what actually fixed this issue! It was a friends PC. I'm sure it was a hotkey issue of some sort. I think some hotkey application, possibly a Compaq application shipped with the PC. I uninstalled/disabled it and it went away.

I suggest looking down your list of applications and uninstalling anything you are unsure of.

Sorry can't offer much more help than that. Good luck.

    Simon

Hi there, just thought I would leave a post for anyone else reading - we connected another keyboard and had no problem, so now think it is a hardware problem (where the backspace key is faulty and seems to send an internet hotkey)
    thanks
