    Hello there,

I have 2 laptops and 2 desktops (all running widows xp home) on a simple windows network (i.e. file sharing/home network wizard) and i want to back up certain document folders from each machine to one location.

I have an external hard drive (maxtor one touch 200GB) on one of the desktops and the bundled software that comes with it. This is ok for just the one computer but as you cannot specify an exact location of where to backup to, just the root drive, if i run the software on other computers i cannot specify the drive across the network and if i could you cannot choose a specific folder.

Ideally i would like to have 4 folders on the external hard drive, one for each computer and some software on each computer that, at the touch of a magic button, copies specified files to one of the said folders.

I have been looking around and to be honest i cannot see the wood for the trees as there are quite a few and I would value the opinion of others. If there is any kind of free/shareware that would be handy but not essential

Otherwise is there someway i can create automated task/macro/program thing to copy and paste the files. I am not too worried about incremental backup as the latest version of the files are all that i need.

Hope you can help, sorry for the long message.

    All the best

Yes. I have a partition that is used just to take a daily backup. And have Replicator running to copy changed data files, favorites, etc.

Then, periodically physically back that partition up to CD.

    Another for Cobian.
Not as simple as Karen's, but can run as a service, backup to archive, incremental backups (only files that have been added or changed), etc.
