Ok, my freebsd (4.10) install is seriously messed up. Samba is not working, and I have been unable to get it working, I have no X Windows installed, no CD Burner, etc, etc...

I need to backup some files so they aren't lost when I install ubuntu.

What's the best way to go about this? Would a live distro of linux I can boot from CD work to get samba running so I can copy them? If so, which one?

    Other ideas?

Is OpenSSH installed and running? Is there a FTP server running?
