I have a quick question about my account here. I was able to add a profile pic but I couldn't get an avatar to load. I noticed on a couple profiles that have avatars as large as 65 px by 65 px. Has that been downsized now?

Yes. I just looked again and also did a search for files and folders using the term, "PORTRAIT PROFESSIONAL". Nothing. I am using an earlier version of that software but I've had it awhile. I just stored this particular version away and never got around to opening it yet. But it's gone now and I didn't delete it. Should I run the scan again?

Oh...my Roxio software and D drive are working again. Everything appears to be back to normal.
Yes, I would run another scan and see if it still gets detected please.

65 x 65 is only for donating members. If you haven't donated, I believe it's 50 x 50.

The new scan reported 2 viruses found and cleaned but when I went to the following report, it says they are renamed. Is that a good thing? LOL

Everything is still running fine. Should I delete any other zipped files or programs that haven't been opened and installed? Also, do you recommend a particular anti-virus program?

Should I delete any other zipped files or programs that haven't been opened and installed?
Which programs are you referring to?

I recommend either Kaspersky Internet Security or Eset Smart Security (Nod32) and I would keep MalwareBytes and update and run it reguarly.

I gotta tell you, I didn't think it could be done. My computer would barely even boot up. Multiple scans with various, highly rated virus programs didn't help. And now, I don't think it ran this smooth when it was new. I'm very pleased! Thank you, Cookiegal!!

Is it time to remove some of the programs it took to fix it?

I recommend uninstalling RegCure. I don't recommend registry cleaners as they can cause more harm than good. Here's a link to a blog written by a distinguished colleague, miekiemoes, on the subject:

http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/registry-cleaners-and-system-tweaking_13.html

Here are some final instructions for you.

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and all of its files and components.
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type ComboFix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous system restore points, then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

To turn off system restore, on the Desktop, right click on My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a new restore point, click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools and then select System Restore.

In the System Restore wizard, select Create a restore point and click the Next button.

Type a name for your new restore point then click on Create.

I also recommend downloading SPYWAREBLASTER for added protection.

Read here for info on how to tighten your security.

***

You should trim down your start-ups to further enhance performance (these show as the 04 entries in your HijackThis log) as there are too many running. You can research them at these sites and if they aren’t required at start-up then you can uncheck them in msconfig via Start - Run - type msconfig click OK and then click on the start-up tab.

I don't remember installing these. I would like to delete the programs but I couldn't find them in the msconfig menu you sent me to. I checked my program files. I also looked in my control panel, add/delete files and couldn't find them. Any other suggestions on how I can remove them?

I would actually like to delete everything that is not necessary in my start up menu. I took a couple things out from the msconfig menu that I did know what they were but there are still ten left.

Would you please do the following again so we have the current version:

Open HijackThis and click on the Open Misc Tools section button. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button. Click the Save List button. Save the list then copy and paste it here.

And then please post a new HijackThis log and I will help you with what you can get rid of. It may not be until tomorrow sometime though.

I guess I'm confused. I thought you were telling me that they were running in my startup and I needed to decide if I wanted that or not. I still don't know what they are.

Maybe I should have listed myself as a beginner instead of intermediate. :p

They are links to click on to go and check all of your startup files to see if they need to be running at startup. Those would be the entries showing as O4 in the HijackThis log so, for example, this one.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"

What you would look for in those links is the file jusched.exe. Enter it and see what comes up. It will tell you whether it needs to run at startup, doesn't need to or is user's choice depending on the functions it provides.

FYI, the one used in the example does not need to be running at startup. It will start itself when needed.

For items that don't need to run at startup, you can uncheck them in msconfig via Start - Run - type msconfig click OK and then click on the start-up tab.

Sorry I didn't make it a little clearer in my earlier post. :)

Thank you. That makes sense now.

My settings in Excel have been changed for some reason. Also, my printer has been deleted. It's still listed in my program files but when I try to print, no printer shows up. When I do a printer search, it's not there. Should I just reinstall?
