I looked at the power supply tester but it costs almost as much as a new power supply. So I am just going to buy a new power supply and if that doesn't work I will probably just look into replacing the computer. It's ten years old so it is probably just time to.It is very possible that other parts ie motherboard, ram, etc were damaged during the pw surge.
IMO a pw supply tester is not a definitive test of the pw supply. It does not test the unit under a load. The very best pw supply test is to swap in a known good pw supply. Do understand that if a pw supply tester shows your pw supply as OK, it can still be the cause of problems.
