I keep getting messages that my hard disk is full/ out of memory. I have run SCAN DISK in DOS, and at the END, it told me the disk was out of space and it couldn't continue--to free up some space. Before THAT, I also ran Reg Clean, and it cleaned up a number of files. After my DOS experience, which needless to say took AWHILE, I logged back into Windows and I get the message even MORE. If I cancel it, it seems to be fine but keeps popping up. But I tried to run Diskeeper (is this any good anyhow?) and it said there was no room. I can log into the web (dial up) fine, except for getting the message that I'm out of room on drive C. System resources shows 70% resources free.

I have a very old computer, I am on W98. I really can't run out and buy a new machine right now.

I have run adaware and Spybot
I have done an online check for viruses and eliminated some trojans, etc.
I am temporarily using peoplepc as an ISP and I'm wondering if there's a connection, although I tried Juno too and I seemed to have the same memory loss.
When I use Memory Guard (which I don't know is any good either) the meters plummet.

    PLU-EEESE somebody help. TIA

    Log is fine

    DownLoad EasyCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons – I do not recommend
    using the Duplicates files button
as many dupes are there on purpose.

Not all files will delete – that is normal.

In the unnecessary button I check the top 4 entries

    Empty the trash afterwards

Well, thanks. Is one registry cleaner that different from another? And is all that stuff in hijack this NORMAL?

I also (I should have mentioned) LOST Firefox a couple of weeks ago. I uninstalled my version because it wouldn't open, but it wouldn't RE-INSTALL either. After THAT my Outlook Express acted weird. And several things I attempted to load/update all were corupted after loading.

This is a un-necessary file cleaner - the registry cleaner won't get you that much space

You have an old tired 98 system and prolly is in dire need of a re-install

Just to add to MFDnSC's post if I may....

When you first use EasyCleaner it will probably find well over 100 files that are basically junk and clogging up your system. Deleting them will free-up space that you are in obvious need of. Use it on a regular basis.

"...And is all that stuff in hijack this NORMAL?..." If MFDnSC says your log is clean you can be assured that it is - that "stuff" is in fact normal :)

I don't disagree with that. I would like to do the equivilent of a duct tape repair at this point though, and it seems to my limited geek capability that there's SOMETHING WEIRD in there. Admittedly, I didn't clean my disks/defrag enough before, but being told in DOS that Scandisk has no more room just seems TOO weird, as does Firefox simply vanishing in the ether.

Am loading Easy Cleaner now. Thanks again.

If your log is clean the next logical step is to free up as much space as possible. Be guided by MFDnSC - 20,000+ posts says that he knows what he is doing :)

That system is ancient - anything is possible

Either do as I said and 1069 concurred or stop complaining -

Ez will clean up a lot of crud off your system - empty the trash

It won't open. It loaded fine.It says it's not a valid Win32 application.
And you know, I appreciate your help, but it's not necessary to be rude.

You are the one being rude questioning what we are saying - you came asking for help and I was willing to give it yet you did not want to follow it!

Excuse me? Nobody questioned anybody's advice about ANYTHING, oh except the damn thing won't open. Kindly refer to , e.g. 'do what I say, or quit complaining' to REALLY see what rudeness is.

But you know what? Forget it. This used to be a really great forum where nice people were happy to help without arrogance and nastiness. It is obviously NOT anymore. So, have fun. I'm out. There are other sources.

This may help a little in getting rid of hidden files but try Delindex, you'd be suprised sometimes how much it can find. It will also compact the registry:

    http://www.burzurq.com/forum/delindex.html

    Click on Delindex.bat to download

So you know ahead of time Delindex will delete any cookies that are stored, in case you want to keep them be sure to back them up.

After downloading place Delindex on the Root C:, go to the Start Button and reboot in DOS mode. Type:

    cd C:\

    At the C:\ prompt type:

    Delindex run

I can't find anywhere in this thread where you have actually told us how much space is available on the hard drive. Did I miss it?
