I am trying to create a batch job on xp pro but I can't get the extension to work (.bat) as an example. Is it possible to run batch jobs on XP Pro? If so, what do I need to do to get it to work please?

    TIA

Please post the contents of the file in question. Also, to make it a lot easier to work with file extensions, you can stop hiding extensions of known file types. In Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck the option illustrated below.
