Beeps at start up

    accoording to the user of this workstation everthing was working fine ...then the system shut down and will not restart. after you press the power button you hear continuos beeps. amber idicator on the monitor. this is a e-machine p-4 processor...w98. how might i proceed?

    I would first check the cpu fan to be sure it's spinning.......then the ram chips and the video card.......

    I would suggest that the previous user may have moved / lifted the machine - even if it was only to retrieve a paper clip or something.
    Some PC chassis are a little frail, and a component may have jumped from its socket - maybe even just slightly.
    Remove the cover, re-seat everything (RAM, Video Card, PCI cards etc. taking normal anti-ststic precautions)as suggested by the previous post.
    You can also check that the fans are spinning (a good guide that the Mo'board is powered up)
