I prefer to use egrep, because you can search for multiple strings in one command, like:
$ egrep 'string1|string2|...' <file> w/o the last "|..." which indicates multiple strings.

I think I fixed your link, Tom. Please let me know if not. LAN
I am getting a "Page Not Found" error when I click it.

I don't know if the original one is, T6, but I'm on top of it.
If Tom wants me to change the link I will, but I fixed the syntax so his original is an active hyperlink. (y)

I had changed it earlier as well, it goes to page now, just not sure if it was the one he wanted. I'll let you fix it if its still not correct.

Hi Triple6 and LAN,

The fix is now in raw http address format, and I usually use the TSG specified format for url hyperlinking at:
BB Code List.

Originally, the error was caused by my leaving out the ending ']' after the http address of the web page before the text "Beginner’s Guide to Grep" which is still not properly coded according the the BB Code List spec for url hyperlinking.

Thanks,

Is it the way you want it now?

Hi Triple6,

It appears to be as originally intended.

Thanks to both you and LAN for persevering (it's a bit of a chore to describe it to others) when I could have just fixed it if the Moderators had the capability to re-grant permission to the OP to edit the post.

May I ask, in what way does this differ from what the insert link button would do?
Beginner's guide to grep

What advantage would there be in learning these?

Thank you for the link by the way. I'm trying to learn as much Linuxy as I can before I finally install it.

You can also add to your report the exact content/link/code you want to appear in the post as well :)
