I am trying to help my father who is an older gentleman who uses the internet to communicate with his deaf friends. I have downloaded the adaware and spybot and I consistently get a few finds on spy bot that i cannot get rid of even when i have tried to follow their pathes and delete them on my own. The main ones I m having problems with are E 2 Give, Surf sidekick, NewDotNet, and there is also a file called command service that wont allow itself to get fixed or removed. the computer is running so many pop ups that it makes it almost impossible for him to get anything done. In the few minutes i have been typing this there are about 20 pop up windows that i have minimized or closed out of. Can anyone please point me in a direction that would make some sense to get this cleaned up and working good for him again??? I have search the site for a solution but have only encountered writing that makes no sense to me what so ever!!

All I can suggest for the popups is to download Google's toolbar which has a pop up blocker. I have it and it doesn't allow any popups.

have you tried removing them from the control panels' Add/remove list? Or you could try downloading "hijack this" and removing them from there.

Hi and welcome to TSG! :)

Hijack This is a simple program that takes a good look into your computer then creates a log of files, ec. and will let the folks here see if there is something that is causing problems on your computer... like the one's you've described. They are very qualified here and will advise you on how to clean it up after they've examined your log.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Definetly get HiJack this you are severly infected

If the system is XP or W2K do this before posting a log

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ (W2K/XP Only)
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
(Start tapping F8 at the first black screen after power up)

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a new HiJack log

Ok sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all but im going crazy here. I downloaded the ewido and installed this with no problem but once I went to safe mode to run it the scan took 3 hours which was no big deal I can handle that but then when it went to clean the files it would get stuck on cleaning the same file each of the 4 times I tried this and the last time I let it go almost a full 24 hours before giving up on it.. what should I do now??
I am going to post the results I was able to save off of a quick scan which I did before running it the fourth time on full scan and Ill also not what the screen read this last time I ran the complete scan to see if someone can point me in t he right direction.
Here is what the screen was showing when I finally cancelled the last complete scan-
Scanned Objects 243.385
Skipped objects 0
Infected objects 130
Cleaned objects 25
ignored objects 0
Scan started 1/21/06 12:13:43 am
Elapsed 95 min 22 sec
perfrom cleaning
C:\program files\surfsidekick 3\ssk.exe

here is the result of the quick scan

There's a lot of infection there

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

* Note: If you receive an error while running option #1 like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications, choose close to terminate the application.."...then do one of the following:

1: Click on the l2mfix.bat again and choose option # 5 for Fix Autoexec.nt/cmd.exe error.
2: Alternatively, you can click the fixautont.html link in the l2mfix folder and follow the directions there to fix it manually.
Do not run the fix portion without fixing the error first.
After you have performed the procedures to fix the error, repeat the steps above to run option #1 for Run Find Log.
