I want to extend the my Telephone line that has ADSL to the second floor that has no phone.

I bring the phone line using Ethernet cable to the second floor where I have ADSL modem. use a filter and splitter to connect to ADSL modem and on the phone port of the filtter and spittler use another pair of the Ethernet cable to cpnnct to the original phone.

I want to use the same Ethernet cable for 1 and 2. which is the best pair to use ( orange , green , blue brown).

I have both cat5e FTP and cat6 UTP, which one you recommend ?

Note1: the wire between the splitter and ADSL modem is the wire that came with the modem.

    Note2:
I have cable that I use the green pair for 1 (the main line , phone + ADSL)

and brown pair for 2 ( phone line after the filter-splitter)

    Note3:
at the splitter, I use RJ11 plug with one pair in the middle ( you just need two wires for the phone line)

CAT 5 is more suitable for 'borrowing' a pair for analog phone and/or ADSL -- you can easily use the blue pair (my second choice is the brown pair) while still using the orange and green pairs for ethernet network.

I hope that answers your question. ...but I might not be totally clear on your original setup.

How good are you at drawing a picture :)

Do you need a phone connection upstairs? If not, I'd put the splitter downstairs, and just run the ADSL up, no need to run anything back down.

If you do need the phone upstairs, I'd use the Brown to go up, and the Blue to come back down

no. I am not using the the phone upstair. But I want the modem in my room upstair where I have servers and other devices. So if there are problem, I don't go to two places. I am now using green for wires pair 1 which is to up , and brown for wires pair 2 which is go down. The internet is good but I want the best.

I will try a cat5e cable with brown up and blue down ( the important for me the one that goes up and carry the internet)
