I am seeking advice on the most effective and economical way to protect my desktop XP + Netgear router enironment, with good North American technical support when I get to the point of needing technical help. I have used paid versions of AVG, ZoneAlarm and Comodo, over the years with generally good success, as long as I stick to 'standard" configurations.
With the advent of the iPhone and iPad, Ihave been turning increasingly to remote control of my Desktop XPs (up to 3 in number). For this I use VNC to provide the desktop control over Wi-Fi and 3G to my iPad. The iPad is increasingly the central control device for my own personal computer network environment.

At the desktop level, I use the Synergy utility to provide multiple machine control through a single keyboard and a main screen.

To make this work, I do have to expore and utilize some of the interesting features of the iPad VNC app, the set up for my netgear router and settings for sysnergy servers in each of my XP machines and my main Firewall Suite - currently Comodo.

You will see that I do have to explore many technical cul-de-sacs. This is part of the process.

From time to time, the whole complex network stops working and I am forced into diagnostic mode.

Since I pay a fee for the Firewall, I expect to receive salient technical support, at the non-trivial level. Unfortunately, because of outsourcing of thechnical support away from North America and the UK, by the big Security companies, I often find myself struggling with processes and people who are not equipped to solve non-standard issues.

All of this to say, that I think a need the assurance of competent North American or UK technical support for Routers and Firewalls, to help me out of the technical dead-ends, of my own making.

Sorry for being verbose, but I have found this forum to be second to none in relevance, resources and helpfulness.

    Your advice is solicited.
