I thought gaming headsets would be good for music, because they're good for games, but it seems like other people I've talked to don't agree.

What are the best headphones for music? I want it to capture every little sound clearly, and have good outside noise reduction.

what kit are you using them on?
    Whats your budget?
what is the media - is it CD, Record or compressed files ?

    I like Bose & Sennheiser
I have the Sennheiser over ear travel headphone

The talkthrough function is great and the quality also good
I use on itouch - with minimum compression using a fifo amp connected digitally
At home i use on a Engima valve Amp

    with CD, uncompressed files

My vote is for Sennheiser, the only headphones that I own that last for longer than several month.

    Thanks for moving it.

Just on my PC, anything from Youtube to various mp3/ogg/wav files.

I listen to a wide range of stuff from classical to rock and drum and bass stuff, so something with good bass and, well, everything.

Thanks for the links, I'm looking at them now.

you lose a little bass with noise reduction - you will need to find a shop that has a selection to try

That's not an option where I live..

I didn't mean that much noise reduction, just not ridiculously bad noise reduction.

A friend recommended Koss. What do you think of them?

I've had two pairs of Koss, three pairs of Sennheiser, three pairs of Sony, and a pair of Audio Technica. AT are my all time favourite, I could bang on about them but I'll just link you to their amazon page, check out their reviews.

    http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATHM50S-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B004ZG9TMA/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1356103888&sr=1-1&keywords=B004ZG9TMA

P.S. Gaming headphones generally have a lot of emphasis on bass, so you can hear the footsteps and not get jumped. They are not made for music so they're not great for it.

I went ahead and got a pair of Steelseries Siberia V3 headphones. They're really great, don't seem very bassy, and are, if anything, better than the two pairs of Koss headphones I've tried.

If I ever get another pair I'll try Audio Technica.

    Thanks guys!
